The Factual Basics of Acne

Similar to the common form of acne, known as acne vulgaris, is acne rosacea. Acne rosacea is known to effect white skinned people of northwestern European descent. It is more common in women, but when found in men can be more severe. While this skin disorder can effect all ages, it is more common in middle-aged adults from 30 — 50 years of age.

Starting as redness and flushing over the chin, nose, cheeks and forehead, it can progress to semi-permanent blemishes. Pustules and papules (red bumps) accompany the redness. This is where the acne terminology comes into play. When the bumps become noticeable, it is generally mistaken for common acne. The blood vessels within the areas of the blemishes become more pronounced, and can be left this way permanently. Blackheads are not something you will find within this form of acne. Due to the fact that oils and cells becoming trapped within the pore do not cause this form of acne, this specific disease is limited to raised bumps, pimples and other blemishes.

To determine appropriate treatment it is essential to consult a medical professional. The most recognized form of treatment has been an antibiotic, but it is crucial to determine if it is in fact acne rosacea. Even though antibiotics are commonly used, there is no cure. The condition can be controlled however. It is very important to recognize what you are attempting to treat. The common person may mistake an outbreak for one of common acne and use a strong topical cream. This will intensify the outbreak of pimples instead of correcting it. Any direct sunlight, certain foods, and even stress can affect the extent of the redness and bumps. It is important to take extra precautions to not let the face become overly irritated since some of the effects are permanent. The redness is caused by blood vessels being brought to the surface of the skin. There are also claims that anything acidic can cause or contribute to a flair-up.

Former President Bill Clinton may be one of the most famous people suffering from this condition. There are many people who suffer from this condition and have no idea that they even have it. There are some erroneous claims that excessive alcohol usage will cause someone to develop rosacea. Alcohol can make a preexisting condition more prominent, but will not «cause» it. The noticeable characteristic of a swollen red tipped nose is often the sign of an extreme case. This is usually where a condition is left untreated and possibly aggravated by other factors. To prevent further development of unsightly blemishes it is vital that you adhere to the guidelines set forth by your doctor.

If you are noticing that you blush easily, and you are developing blemishes it is important to seek medical care. The symptoms can be hard to diagnose if you are unaware of the possible causes. Whether you are experiencing rosacea or an acne vulgaris outbreak the sooner you begin treatment the easier it will be to contain the problem and prevent further outbreaks.
